A new technological boom is underway- that will slowly transform India in a hardware hub with by building a semiconductor industry. Cell Phones will be driving the semiconductor industry growth in India. Thus number of mobiles will be more in India than PCs. This in turn is generating an opportunity based ecosystem- component parts companies, electronics assembly lines, applications for new-generation chips and gadgets.
With Indian Govt. and industry players aggressively developing telecom infrastructure with mobile phone towers to increase coverage, about 40% of Indian land is covered with cell phone services.
Vendors selling low-margin technological products find India an attractive place to sell their goods. All this is possible particularly due to cheap labor & savings in tariffs & logistics.
IDC's research analyst, Ryan Reith says that India is the one of the world's most wanted place to set-up a technology company. According to him, everything around India is growing.
As per the RNCOS report "Asia Pacific Mobile Handset Market Analysis ", Asia-Pacific's share of the global mobile phone market's value increased by 5.9 percentage points over the review period 2001-2005, growing from 36.1% in 2001 to 42% in 2005.
