How to Draw a Simple Dog in 7 Easy Steps
Bring Rover to Life!
Drawing is a skill which we all possess but just need to learn the steps first in order to be able to put an image in your mind on to a page using a pen. You need to break an image up in your mind into component shapes and focus on one at a time. Think of something you want to draw and then try and see it as a combination of simple shapes: square, rectangle, triangle etc. When you do this you can at least start to make the beginnings of a recognizable object appear.

A dog is a common object which people, probably kids, want to draw on a regular occasion. Here is a step by step guide to drawing a recognisable dog which you will always be able to remember.

Step 1: Draw a stick figure with no arms. So that's a circle, with a vertical line coming from the bottom edge, about twice as long as the circle is wide. Then draw two diagonal lines at the end of the line like a chevron, pointing up towards the circle.

Step 2: Draw a sausage shaped circle around the stick figure. Now to get the size right, imagine you are circling the stick figure who is standing in a row of other stick figures, so stay close to the figure but leave a bit of space.

Step 3: Draw two humps on top of the circle above the stick figures head. They can be about two thirds the length of the sausage circle and span the far left edge of the circle to the centre and then from the centre to the far right hand side.

Step 4: Draw two circles in the middle of the humps. Fill them in so they are dark. While you're at it colour in the head of the stick man.

Step 5: Fill in the gap between the two humps. Draw a curve like an umbrella stuck between two rocks then colour it in too.

Step 6: Draw two big 'C' shapes to make ears. Start one from the centre of the top of the umbrella and curve it all the way down to about in line with the first stick man leg. Then do a mirror image on the other side. It is important that you use good quality drawing inks or other types of craft materials and not cheap nasty ones or your dog will look like a big mess.

Step 7: Final touches. You can now see your dog and with a couple of whiskers made from lines flicked out from about the stick man's waist on both side, and a tongue made by drawing a 'U' hanging down between the stick man's legs.

Ta Da! You should now have a dog!
