Salasia oblonga is a woody plant found in the forests of Sri Lanka and India. The roots and stems of Salasia oblonga has a long tradition of use for thousands of years as an Indian Ayurvedic herb as a traditional Indian medicine for the treatment for diabetes. The blood glucose response to a test meal was lowered by 23 percent in non-diabetic human subjects given 1 gram of Salasia oblonga extract with the test meal, according to a study in the January 2005 issue of the “Journal of the American Dietetic Association.” In subjects with Type 2 diabetes, 480 milligrams of Salasia oblonga extract with a test meal lowered the blood glucose response by 22 percent, in a study published in the July 2007 issue of “The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition."
