The Advantages Of Booking A St. Martin/St. Maarten Vacation At A Luxurious Island Villa

by Stephen Daniels

Whether your vacation is planned for winter, summer or anytime between, you couldn't choose a more beautiful, luxurious or affordable destination than St. Maarten (or St. Martin if you opt for the French side) Island. And selecting a St. Martin villa over a hotel makes the most sense of all. Not only do villas in St. Maarten offer more amenities and more beach-accessible locations, they can also accommodate more people at a much lower cost than can a hotel. For example, if you were to rent three rooms at a high-end hotel, it would come to approximately $690 per room for each night. On the other hand, a three-bedroom villa in the high season runs about $625 a night, saving your party well over a thousand dollars a day. In fact, there are even some excellent lower-end private villas available for $150 a night, perfect for two people!

Moreover, villas offer a great deal more than a room to sleep in. You have a kitchen, a patio, and a private pool, Wi-Fi access and luxury amenities not available at most hotels are usually available at your villa. No disturbance from neighbors next door or overhead and the villa housekeeper or maintenance manager is always available to answer any questions that might arise.

Perhaps the most enticing part of renting a St. Maarten villa, however, is the availability of discounts on day trips and attractions offered by your St. Maarten resort. There are so many diverse types of activities in and around the island, every age and interest can be satisfied and most of them can be enjoyed at a discount when they are arranged through your villa.

For example, a day trip to world-renowned Pinel Island or Le Galion Beach offers everything from sailing to parasailing to snorkeling and surfing. Whether you're on your honeymoon or are accompanied by little ones, the beaches of St. Maarten offer splendid playgrounds for everyone. Soft sand and shallow water offer both fun and safety for youngsters while coral reefs and stiff breezes invite snorkelers and sailors to indulge in their chosen activities. In fact, there is no water sport that is not enhanced by the seas surrounding this island paradise.

Those who opt for a day away from the beaches might spend the day visiting one of the many galleries that dot the island with superb showings of the work of some of St. Martin's most talented artists. Grand Case has many wonderful galleries that are open before or after you dine, with the artists right there to answer any questions you might have. Philipsburg and Marigot offer museums for history buffs and those seeking to learn a bit more about this island paradise; the Dutch side of the island also offers a small zoo, allowing you and the kids to view local animals you wouldn't typically see in your hometown. If you're looking for a distinctive experience that lets you bring home a bit of St. Martin, you might want to experience the unique art of inventing a special scent for yourself at the famed Tijon Parfumerie and Boutique on Grand Case. Finally, spend a relaxing afternoon watching the dazzling display of fluttering color at the famous Butterfly Farm.

After an invigorating day on the clear turquoise water of Pinel Island, drive to the French Cul de Sac and take a thrilling boat ride across the bay. Treat yourself to a gourmet dinner at one of the many fine restaurants, where Creole cuisine is fresh and plentiful. Or, spend some time shopping at local boutiques or open-air markets in Marigot or Philipsburg.

However you decide to spend your vacation, your accommodating St. Maarten villa will probably have a discount available. Be sure to inquire before heading out on your day of adventure; saving money always adds to the enjoyment of seeing the sights.
