Retirees –How to Select the Perfect Location for Your Retirement

The best way to determine where to spend your retirement years is to ask yourself many questions before you start your search.

Don’t be swayed by what other friends and family members are choosing or by beautiful ads in retirement magazines.

To begin, ask yourself what is your favorite part of the country and why. Do you prefer 4 seasons or 2, do you tolerate humidity well, and do you prefer a quiet lake setting or days at the beach?

Is it more important to be near your children and grandchildren or to be in a warmer climate?

The better you really know what is most important to YOU, the better and easier your choice will be.

You should also be sure that the wants and needs of both spouses/partners will be equally filled by a community before you make a commitment.

It can also be important to consider whether or not a community or the surrounding area will be able to fill long term needs as you age.

Of course you will want to make your decision with both your heart and your head. If you have worked hard all your life, this may be the time to select a property that you fall in love with, but you may also want to consider the likely long term financial gain of one community over the other when making your selection.
