Spray Fountain Design: How To Design A Spray Fountain In 4 Easy Steps

by Amy C.

Spray fountain design is fairly easy and it takes minimal amount of materials. Here are the few things you would need to design a spray fountain from scratch: Rocks, river stones, or pebbles, a submersible water pump, a fountain jet, a grate and an underground basin.

The basin can be about to 15 inches deep and 20 inches wide. A sturdy plastic grate can be easily found from a pond supply store. The basic way a spray fountain works is simple - the spray jet is placed on top of the stones. Pump is housed in the underground basin. The purpose of plastic grate is to support the rocks or river stones.

Here are the four easy steps to spray fountain design:

1. Prepare the site by marking the outline clearly. Remove any obstructions with a shovel. Dig a hole to house a basin of about 15 inches deep and 20 inches wide. In order to fit the basin snugly, the hole should be created so that it is a little deeper and broader than basins' size.

2. Install the basin and along with basin, add some sand or gravel to the basin hole so that it is leveled. If the rim of the basin is not leveled, add some gravel or sand so that it is leveled.

3. Place pump in the basin. Place the pump in such a way that it straight and the outlet is visible. Now, connect the GFCI outlet to the electrical cable. Place the grate over the basin, making sure that it covers the entire basin. Ideally, it should overlap the basin by atleast 6 inches on all the sides. Cut out the grate in its center. The hole should be big enough for your hand to pass through it comfortably. The reason of doing so is so that you can reach the pump and adjust the water flow if needed. Place the mesh over the cutout in such a way that it does not sag. Add stones and peebles on top of the grate. Consider using sea shells, and color rocks to add the vibrant texture to your spray fountain.

4. Now it's the time for the final assembly. Fill the basin container with water. Add enough water so that the pump is entirely submersed in the water. Cover the entire grate with rocks, pebbles, and river stones. Turn on the pump and check the water flow. Adjust the water flow if it is too slow.

This culminates the design of a beautiful water fountain. A bubbling spray fountain adds calmness and natural warmth to your backyard. It is regarded as nature's gift to mankind.
