Some Things You Should Know about Feng Shui

by Jack Moundon

Feng Shui, which literally means, “wind water” belongs to an ancient Chinese philosophy about nature. Often identified as divination by geographic figures or line, feng shui is primarily concerned with the understanding of relationships between people and nature in order to create harmony within the environment.

Feng shui is founded on the notion that living with nature, instead of against it is beneficial for both people and the environment and that the physical and emotional aspects of the environment greatly affect people’s lives. For instance, if you surround yourself with symbols of apathy, death and hatred, along with noise and other unpleasant things, chances are that you can be corrupted in the process. However, if you surround yourself with beauty, compassion, gentleness, music, sympathy and other pleasantries in life, then you elevate yourself and your environment as well.

Feng shui experts can discover and provide directions for the optimal flow of metaphysical energies. Feng shui is made up of five elements and two opposing energies, namely the chi and sha. It has also become a type of architectural acupuncture wherein wizards and wise men use their metaphysical senses to detect good or bad energy that may be present in buildings and landscapes. At present, many people hire feng shui experts to do house or office arrangements: they declare which way doors should face, which room requires plants or flowers, which point a bed’s head should be, where mirrors should be placed, where a bathroom should go, which room needs green plants and which one needs red flowers, etc. Feng shui experts decide on these aspects based on how they feel for different types of energy flow such as chi, sha, electromagnetic fields and others that a client might be worried about.

In addition, feng shui has become yet another energy scam for the New Age, which come in an array of different metaphysical products that range from half moon and planet paper cutouts, octagonal mirrors, wooden flutes and many more. In feng shui belief, these items that are made available for sale are believed to improve health and promote prosperity in your home and environment. Even in the Western world, feng shui has already become an indispensable part in interior decorating. In fact, even business tycoons like Donald Trump call on feng shui experts to as to where his doorways should face or where his other things should be placed.

Although other sectors may criticize feng shui for being superstitious and ‘defiant’ to the laws of physics, it still remains popular among many people and some cultures.
