Viva Las Vegas

by George W. Lasalle

A trip that will always be remembered is the one in Las Vegas, what is sometimes referred to as "Sin City" due to it's casino gambling places, though I prefer to remember it as a "sensational" city, LasVegas, Nevada. From LA to this gambler's city, It was a 4 hour drive during the summer months. The weather was exceptionally hot but such excitement filled the air. When my friends and I got to our casino Hotel, we were amazed by the kindness showed to us by the valet attendant as he welcomed us to the gambling and entertainment world, and wish for us a splendid stay and away we went to check in and start what ended up being the most fabulous time.We played casino, gambled card games like poker, blackjack and craps and laughed and ate fantastic foods, prepared by some of the best chef's in the world, and right on the strip of the gambling city.I wanted to take my chances on a gigantic dollar slot machine and decided to risk 25.00 dollars of the 200.00 dollars I had to play with for the whole trip. After feeding 17.00 dollars into this huge slot machine I hit 300.00 dollars and I jumped Up and down and laughed so much, a casino attendant came over and offered my friends and meI free tickets to a show with vouchers for two complimentary drinks. We were in an element of surprise, appreciation and realized that it would be a gambling and adventure trip not forgotten. "Casino City", I love you.The next I want to tell you is a true story about a Vegas vacation involving casino gambling and... a little more, that must be told now that I am an adult and making my own decisions in life - whether gambling, casinos or whatever - and with a need to share this story in hopes that it brings a smile to the reader of these words. I was 15 years old and took what was called a "turn-a-round" trip to Las Vegas, the city with all the casinos and gambling hotels. The chartered bus had not been filled to capacity which was a requirement in order for the Las Vegas trip to take place. I went with a friend whose Mother had planned the Vegas trip and she allowed us to go, as long as we behaved ourselves and did not get into any mischief - gambling included. We arrived in Las Vegas at midnight and the temperature was 100 degrees and no breeze whatsoever. In other words: all was normal in Sin-City. We knew we were in for a good time. We walked through the air-conditioned casinos and played the slots for as long as we had nickels to play with but truly enjoyed watching the adults play Poker, Blackjack, Craps and other gambling games. Wanting to play a joke on my friends, I went and sat at the casino bar and asked for a whiskey glass but with water and ice cubes and when my friends met me at the bar I was telling the Bartender a "sad story". Oh the look on their faces. We all had a good laugh as did the Casino Bartender.
