Casters That Win - Shaman Class

by Jon Scott

The Shaman class is one of the few classes that is able to use many different types of spells and abilities. You can play your Shaman character is many different ways. One option is to be a healer, this is for someone who wants to passively help and support their teammates in the field when they are battling. The second option, is to use Melee or Spell casting to deal damage to the enemy, this is mainly if you want to be an aggressive player in this game. The release of Burning Crusades allowed for the Shamans to be played by both Horde races and no also by the Alliance too. The Shaman can use all gear in the game except swords, and furthermore; shamans are very dependent on leather armor until they reach level 40 and cannot use mail armor until after that.

Totems, a ability that a Shaman can use, place them around themselves and fellow party members to boost their powers. Totems are divided into four schools and there is a great variety of them that can be casted: water, fire, air, and earth totems. At one time, only one totem can be active of each school. Blood Lust, or Heroism for Draeneis, is another ability, besides totems, that Shamans can use. This ability boosts all party and raid members haste rating by 30% for about 40 seconds. From time to time, the Shaman can summon a Earth and Fire Elemental, so do not forget this.

The Shamans many different types of skills can greatly benefit him during leveling or even battle. The Shamans have an ability called Reincarnation which comes with a cooldown of one hour. The moment he gets killed, the Shaman will be able to resurrect if this ability is not on cooldown. It does require a reagent called 'Ankh'. The Shaman can also learn Ghost Wolf at level thirty which improves his running speed which is nice for leveling, even though mounts can be used at level 30 now as well. Astral Recall, which severs as another Hearthstone, is another skill that Shamans can use. It does not have much cost on you because the cool down is only 15 minutes!

As you can read above, the Shaman truly does have some great abilities. The talent trees will provide you with even more cool spells and abilities.

To begin with there is the Elemental talent build which is meant for casting damage dealers. To maximize damage, you will use fire and lighting attacks. A skill that can cause strong damage and knock enemies backwards is called Thunderstorm, which is a AoE spell that is available for use later in the game.

After that there is the Enhancement talent build. This build is created for melee damage dealing Shamans. By selecting this build, the Shaman will be able to use two one-handed weapons and will also allow the Shaman to deal great melee attacks. If the Enchancement build is followed to the end you will be able to summon two Spirit Wolves which are extremely powerful both in PvE and PvP.

The Restoration build is focused on healing, which is one of the last types of builds to choose from. The Healing Waves, Earth Shields, Chain Heals, Mana Totems, and Riptide allow Shamans to be great healers. One way to get new abilities and to boost your already existing abilities is to work on the Restoration talent tree.

With all the different abilities and skills that a Shaman has available for use, it is a great character and a lot of fun to use. Another nice thing a Rogue in example does not have is that you can switch between melee damage, being a caster and a healer whenever you like.
