Why Do We Love Converse Trainers So Much?

Converse, Inc. was one of the original sportswear makers in the world. Starting life as the Converse Rubber Shoe Company they have grown through many ups and downs over the years to now be one of the top shoe manufacturers in the world today. They have gone through being the official shoe of the National Basketball Association (NBA) all the way through to bankruptcy and are now a subsidiary of Nike after having been bought for $305 million in 2003.<br/><br/> So what is it about these simple rubber and canvas shoes that people love so much?<br/><br/> Simplicity<br/><br/> That may be exactly it: they are incredibly simple shoes. The basic style of Converse All-Star basketball shoes is essentially just a simple rubber sole, textured and with a soft canvas shoe covering up to above the ankle and regular laces. Where some shoes go for completely over the top styling and elaborate air cushion technology, Converse has stuck to their tried and tested simplicity.<br/><br/> Variety<br/><br/> These days you can get Converse trainers in a massive variety of colours, textures materials and with more than one tongue. People also like to customise their Converse shoes too using dye and pens to mark the canvas or rubber or maybe by using mismatched laces and even mismatched coloured shoes altogether. At present you can get special edition Converse shoes by the likes of Metallica, Grateful Dead, Ozzy Osbourne and DC Comics.<br/><br/> Rocking<br/><br/> One of the biggest supporters of Converse trainers outside of the original NBA teams is the rock community. Since the late seventies early eighties Converse mens trainers have kept many a rock star and punk rockers feet dry and looking good. In turn fans of the genre matched their icons and adopted this footwear for its simplicity, adaptability, affordability and iconic look. You really can spot a pair of 'Cons' a mile away and often when you see someone wearing them, they are so affiliated with the rock scene now that they instantly give you an idea about the wearer before you have met them. The same goes for Dr Martens.<br/><br/> So why do we love Converse shoes?<br/><br/> Converse wearers are trend setters and rebels. Converse were original and still are, they are worn by celebrities as well as kids and teenagers and bridge so many cultural barriers that other shoes just can't. We love Converse shoes because, quite simply, they are cool: they are different and make us feel different in world where everybody wants to stand out from the crowd for the right reasons.<br/><br/><br/><br/>
