Postcard Marketing Still Works
Given how long it’s been around, it seems foolish to think that postcard marketing is a thing of the past. Yet a lot of companies often seem to express this very opinion. Perhaps because it’s so old of a strategy it no longer applies to our modern times is the mentality behind this.
Well, I can tell you that postcard marketing is just as effective now as it ever was. I might even wager as much to say that the advent of the internet has made postcard printing an even stronger form of marketing.
The best way to use postcards is with direct marketing. The benefits of a strategy like this are considerable.
The first is the versatility that the postcard gives you in designing your advertisement. The way it looks, the message it gives, and even the size is all up for grabs. Do something unique with your postcards to make them immediately stand out in a pile of mail.
This leads to the second great strength of the postcard. Because it isn’t hidden behind an envelope, postcards have a much higher rate of people actually reading them than other forms of marketing. As soon as a person picks it up they’re able to see your unique design and take in the information it has.
The next reason is the affordable nature of postcards. Postcard printing is a very cheap style of marketing that allows you to get an advertisement directly into people’s homes that you know they’re going to see. How much better can you possibly do than that?
The cost effectiveness alone is a strong enough reason to pay careful attention to postcards for use with your marketing. But going beyond these strengths, the ability to track the success of postcards is an added bonus that few other forms of marketing can claim as well.
Because you know exactly how many you’re sending out, you can more easily compare the response rate with the number sent out to measure its success. You can’t measure how many people look at a magazine ad or see a television commercial, but you can easily track how many people respond to postcard marketing.
Lastly, and what connects to my first statement of the internet strengthening postcards, is that you can easily use the postcards to direct someone to a website. Postcards can only contain a small amount of information meant to entice. Use this moment to give them access to more information by telling them about your website.
Now you have a much larger audience pouring into your website to learn more about you. You’ve placed your name directly in their hands like no other kind of advertising can.
Don’t let a tried and true method of advertising slip through your fingers because you think it’s only a thing of the past. The fact that it has lasted this long is testament enough of its abilities.
