5 Effective Headline Types
There are 9 different types of headlines you can use to sell your product or service according to Brian Keith Voiles. Below are 5 of them.
1. The Discount Sale Headline
A discount sale headline tells your prospects directly, in no uncertain terms what's in it for them and why they should act now. This is the best format for announcing limited-specials like this:
"Get UP To 40% Off All Children's Jackets On Monday!"
"Take 50% Off Your Choice Of Ladies Shoes 'Til Thursday!"
This headline focuses entirely on the fact that you're inviting your prospects to take advantage of a limited-time discount. The discount sale headline specks straight-forward to your prospect.
2. The Headline With News
If your product or service offers something newsworthy, you may want to consider the headline with News. Newsworthy is usually something new. If your product offers your prospect something new, something he can't get anywhere else, you mayy want to consider using a headline with News.
"Revolutionary New Product gives You The Fastest Way To Flatten Your Stomach, Shape-Up Your Hips & Thighs--No matter where you go!!" or
"Just Released... 19 Of The World's Top Marketing Geniuses Reveal Little-Known Marketing Secrets That Could Make You Rich!"
News headline must however used with caution. Never focus the News on the New Product or Service Itself..Always Focus On the Benefits Your Prospect Gets From the New Product or Service!
When turning features into benefits you must always lead with the benefit, and follow with the feature. Benefits are always more important than features.
3. How-To Headline
People like to learn "how to" do all kinds of stuff. And so, if you're offering a strong system for showing people how to do something, you may want to consider using a how to headline.
Here's an example: "How To Test & Prove A Winning Sales Process So You Can Roll-Out With A Winner Every Time... "
4. The Headlines Offering A Solution
It takes your target markets' biggest problem or frustration and makes them acutely aware of it and you then proceed to show them how you can solve it.
Here is an example of a headline offering a solution: "If You Get A Sore Throat Tomorrow And Cannot Talk For A Week- Here's a 100% Guaranteed Way To Make sure It Doesn't Happen To You!"
5. The Headline Asking A Question
This work great only if you absolutely know your prospect, what they are thinking, what their anxieties, and what they hope to accomplish. You must deeply deeply understand the problems or wants of your target market in order to use the headline.
Here is an example of a question headline: "What's your Best Chance To Succeed In Business? The Answer Below May Surprise You.."
These are the 5 basic types of headlines and they are good on their own or can be combined to make effective hybrids. They are taken from a copywriting course by Brian Keith Voiles.
