Credit and ATM Cards

by Steve

One has to be very careful with his or her credit or ATM card. They are even more important than the cash that you carry in your wallet. If stolen, they can be used heavily, and more often than not if you are not beware, you have to bear the consequences. It becomes inevitable for anyone to be extremely careful with credit or ATM card. You can easily misplace your credit or ATM cards as they are not heavy or bulky products but just a thin rectangular piece of the size of your visiting card. However, the biggest danger that can financially harm you is when your credit or ATM card is stolen. It is often a panicky situation when you misplace your ATM or credit card. The first question that comes to mind is – What to do? Well, do not worry, as we will tell you what to do in such a terrible situation. Inform the authorities immediately At once, call, fax, email or write to the authorities that your credit or ATM card has been lost or stolen. Card issuers are usually open 24 hours. Let them know quickly so that they can take action and issue a new credit or ATM card. Remember, the card issuer cannot ask you for any unauthorised charges once you have reported the card’s loss. However, if the thief uses your credit card before you make the reports, the most you can be charged is $50, as per the federal law. But make sure that the time taken to report is not more than two days, otherwise you can be charged up to $500 because of unauthorised usage of your credit cards. Same holds true for ATM cards. Prevention is better than cure – take care of your credit and ATM cards If you decide to be a little more careful, the misplacement of credit card or ATM card can be avoided. Always remember your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and do not write them down anywhere. Do not write account number or PIN on the ATM, credit card or the receipts. Do not disclose your PIN or account number to anyone. With these careful methods you can significantly reduce the risk of misplacing your credit or ATM card. So now you know what to do when your credit or ATM card is lost or stolen. But remember that it is always better to avoid such a situation.
