Key West Makes For The Perfect Weekend Getaway
It seems like everybody is working longer hours and taking less vacation time these days. It should come as no shock then that people feel more stressed out than ever. The solution to such a problem is a quick weekend getaway. Even if there is not a holiday making it a three-day weekend, with a little creativity and a minimal use of vacation or personal time, you can sneak off to a tropical paradise with an island vacation to Key West, Florida.
Part of what makes it such a great choice is that you can be there in just about six hours from anywhere in the eastern half of the country. The airport is served by several major airlines that offer flights in from the major hubs of Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Atlanta. This means that if you take a half day on Friday, your lunch may be an airport burger but your dinner will be fresh seafood and crab cakes at one of the many Key West restaurants.
The dining scene in Key West is unmatched when it comes to Caribbean island getaways. Over 100 restaurants provide a wide array of menu choices and styles, ranging from casual waterfront take-out places to fine dining restaurants featuring the casual elegance of outdoor dining while enjoying a four-course meal. If you want to be able to recharge during your quick getaway, you are going to need to eat well to do so.
When it comes to relaxing and winding down, there are many different options to choose from. Naturally, as an island sitting in the middle of the ocean, there are plenty of beaches, ranging from upbeat and popular to secret and serene, to choose from where you can nap under the sun while listening to the waves. If you think you might need a little more relaxation than that, there are several award-winning spas offering a variety of services.
Of course, some people like to relax by being a little more active, and Key West has plenty for those people as well. There are paddle boards to rent, kayak tours to take, snorkel excursions to enjoy and fishing of all kinds. Best of all, if you happen to be lucky with your fishing trip, many of the Key West restaurants will cook your catch for you that very night. You will never have a fresher meal in your life.
The hardest part about booking such a trip is having to go home. Thankfully, that quick flight in means a quick flight out, and you can enjoy one last leisurely lunch on Sunday afternoon before heading back to the airport. Just remember that when you get back to work Monday morning, everybody is going to be asking about your smile and your tan.
