Wardrobe Wonders
It's human nature to want to put all of our winter clothes away the first day the sun comes out. And that is exactly what London folk did at the beginning of April when we were faced with a blissful streak of sunshine and warm weather. Unfortunately, in typical English fashion, the good weather did not last, and for the last couple of months, getting dressed in the morning seems to be one of the biggest challenges of the day.
You might be thinking, 'if getting dressed is the biggest challenge of your day, than you really don't have it that bad', and you would be right to think so. However, when you've pushed through what felt like an endless winter of grey and wet, it's nice to not have to carry your brolly to work with you in June and July. It's nice to be able to put away your jumpers and not pull them out again until autumn. Of course, we must deal with what we have to deal with and move on.
To avoid having to go into storage every other day to pull out a cardi or pair of tall boots when you thought they were as good as done for the season, here's a list of things to keep out this summer:
Jean shorts:
Jean shorts are the staple everyone needs for their summer wardrobe. They are comfortable and go with everything. Best of all, they are casual, which tends to be all anyone wants to wear in the summer. And like the full length trousers, jean shorts get better with wear.
White tops:
If you're a guy, having lots of crisp white tshirts, or dress shirts with sleeves you can roll up, is all you need to get through the summer months. If you're a girl, you might opt for some knitted white, lacey whites, or really anything with a flowy, romantic feel to it. These are easily paired with jeans, jean shorts, peasant skirts, or coloured trousers.
Low-top runners:
White Converse are a favourite of mine, but perhaps you might like black lace-ups or something of the sort. Lowtop runners look good with shorts, shirts and rolled jeans. They are comfortable and good for walking long distances or kicking around a ball in the park one weekend.
Jean jacket:
Whether it's a jean jacket or your favourite hoodie, everyone needs their staple button or zip up that they can throw on top of a tshirt or in their bag on a day out. You might keep out a light, summer scarf as well. These can be well paired with outfits, or thrown over your head in an emergency rain situation.
A cool raincoat, maxi dress and a few pair of sandals are also worth having around, depending on your style. When the sun does decide to shine you'll be happy to be prepared for it - in fashion, in your summer-ready garden, equipped with barbeques, sun shades, Pimms and friends.
