Plan An Over The Hill Surprise Party With A Bang

by Gail Leino

There is no one age that is the dividing line for over the hill. The common consensus when a person celebrates an over the hill birthday is typically the age of 50. While some believe that 50 is the beginning of a new phase of their life, this gives others, who are not yet 50 years old, the opportunity to make fun of their friend, mother, father, or love one.

Think funny and gag when it comes to Over The Hill party supplies and decorations. Over the hill party supplies and decorations typically consist of Grim Reaper images, tombstones, ravens, and one foot in the grave phrases.

Don't go all black, it is a bit too grim; instead add some bright colors to liven it up. Select black paper plates, napkins, and cups on a black tablecloth. Black candelabras are a nice touch to the party as well.

Send Over The Hill party invitations which indicates that the party has a particular theme for guests. In the Over the Hill invitations encourage guests to wear black or bring Over The Will gifts.

Foods that are dark work well for Over the Hill parties as do food that are associated with age: prune juice for instance. Black caviar mousse dip, black tortilla chips, black Sesame seed coated tuna, and black olive, mushroom, and mustard seed tapenade are all Over The Hill food options.

Dark chocolate goodies will be the hit of the party. Create (or purchase) a delicious dark chocolate cake as the centerpiece of the Over The Hill party.

Keep the fun going with party games and activities that get everyone involved.

Trivia is always fun and Over The Hill Trivia will let the guests decide how will they really know the guest of honor. Ask players to fill out trivia questions about the birthday boy or girl. Ask questions such as:

What high school or college did he or she graduate from?

What country did he or she vacation last?

What phobia/fears do he or she have? E.g. snakes, heights, or spiders?

Use the year the guest of honor was born to make up more trivia questions for the guests. History may be difficult for some who were not born during the 60s, therefore, offer multiple choice answers for all questions.
