Do You Know The Anxiety Symptoms In Men: How Can You Recognize Them

by Wade Anders

Men encounter many nerve-racking issues in their lives. Nearly all men were brought up to think that they have to succeed in whatever they do. They must provide for their loved ones, they must be a good husband to their wife, along with a great father for their children. In today's hard economic times, competition is worse than ever, and next to impossible to get away from.

Anxiety is a thing that everybody works with within their lives, each day. In general, just about everyone has established our very own methods of addressing the anxiety which the world throws at us. It is when the anxiety that is coming at us overwelms our normal problem management mechanism that the problems begin.

Why could anxiety symptoms in men be more of a problem then for women?

For women, their coping mechanism may be much better suited to cope with anxiety than is men's. Women usually have a close number of good friends with whom they're able to, will and DO talk. Men, however, have been raised to: "Suck it up!", and even when surrounded with their closest pals still will not spill the beans and talk out their problems. For some reason they believe that it would be a indication of weakness, and consequently: "Unmanly". So they think that they will eventually triumph over all of their challenges if they just keep on doing what they have been already doing, and fail to seek out help, hiding their problems and concerns and feelings from everybody else.

Because of this the anxiety symptoms in men and the stress may still build, up to the problem point: the stage where it starts influencing your way of living. The overload of anxiety, once it actually gets to the breaking point, may result in something known as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), the act of being worried everyday about one's problems, which a month or maybe a year before wouldn't have been a subject of worry. Worry starts to consume their every waking hour, leaving room for fewer and fewer "calm" feelings. This leads to a perfect storm of more and more anxiety and harmful emotions. This, not surprisingly can make it even more challenging to pay attention and excel at the job, and even at home, which then brings about even more anxiety. So if you're a man that is attempting to find out if the emotions and physical signs you are feeling and seeing are an actual problem, or if perhaps you're the friend or family member that is worried about a friend or acquaintance, just what are examples of the anxiety symptoms in men?

Some of the GAD warning signs in men:

1.) Lack of energy. Emotional stress and worry are sucking all of the energy. 2.) Escalating alcohol consumption. Self-medicating might work at the start, but it will turn into a crutch, and more and more is going to be needed to produce that short-term comfort they are really seeking. 3.) Ever-increasing drug use. Same reason. 4.) Trouble sleeping. This may vary from almost being unable to sleep, to not sleeping for enough time. Fear is taking over the mind, and sleep may be a difficult thing to do. 5.) A sensation of vulnerability. Not sure what to do, and everything that used to work isn't working any longer. 6.) Lack of appetite. You may not notice him not wanting to eat, however you might very well notice his weight loss. 7.) On edge constantly, could very well be highly irritable. You might find that your once easy going guy bites your head off for no reason. 8.) Thoughts of worthlessness. This goes back to how he grew up, and now he's feeling like he can't live up to his own expectations. 9.) Looks, and is very tense. You might possibly notice that his muscles are always tense, or that he's grinding his teeth, or perhaps you may even see his jaw muscles working all of the time, or his hands clenching or unclenching. 10.) More headaches then are typical. 11.) Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, and/or diarrhea…….they are all from the anxiety: it helps bring about the fight or flight response and the stomach just doesn't work effectively during these times. 12.) Moving faraway from lifelong routines. This could mean a runner that stops running, a bowler that stops bowling, not washing, not shaving, and not dressing as nicely as usual. 13.) Absence of a typical sex drive. 14.) Physical symptoms including heart palpitations, heavy perspiration, trembling.

Since anxiety signs in men, if left un-coped with and untreated could be mentally destructive, and physically taxing, it is important to seek outside assistance. If you're the friend or loved one of somebody you suspect is having difficulties, you'll need to start guiding them in the direction of getting treatment.
