A Strategic USA Alliance For India’s Patni Computers
Global IT service provider, Patni Computer Systems was in the news recently for forging a strategic alliance with Clear Technology Inc., a leading US-based global software solutions company, to cater to global insurance and financial services companies in USA, Great Britain and the Asia – Pacific region.
According to a company statement, under the terms of the agreement, Patni will provide worldwide process consulting and system integration services for US-based Clear Technology’s insurance and financial services solutions. “Clear Technology provides software solutions that allow insurance and financial services companies to dramatically reduce operating costs, while delivering substantial increase in productivity,” it said.
And, earlier this month, Patni Computer Systems acquired ZAiQ Technologies, a US-based AISC design company, an asset purchase transaction that cost it $425,000/-.
Further, the statement said the company was buying intellectual property in Application Specific Integrated Circuit (AISC) design and validation space, active customer contracts and business pipeline, along with a sales head and trademarks, including other capital assets like hardware and software.
Earlier this year, in May 2006 to be precise, Patni Computer Systems launched Legacyx, a new solution framework aimed at helping insurers develop and implement their legacy renewal strategy. The Legacyx framework, which is now available to companies in all insurance sectors.
As well, in March 2006, Patni Computer Systems signed a multi-service contract with Disney Mobile, a new mobile phone service designed just for families. “The company will be responsible for development of consumer, retail and operational portals and end-to-end system testing across multiple vendors and technologies utilised by Disney mobile,” it said.
In addition, application development, application maintenance and support, packaged software implementation, infrastructure management services, product engineering services, business process outsourcing and quality assurance services are all part of Patni’s service lines.
Also, in the news, Patni Computer Systems along with India’s Satyam, Infosys, Patni Systems, Tata Consulting Services and HCL came second, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the second annual Black Book of Outsourcing study, replacing the ‘big six’ outsourcers i.e. Accenture, CSC, EDS, HP and IBM., of which, HP came in at number 13 on the rankings list, followed by Accenture at 22, IBM, number one last year stood at 35, EDS at 36 and CSC near the bottom at number 49.
If the Indian companies continue to strive high, it won’t be long before they take over, dominating and subduing the big western bullies to reign supreme. As they have proved, it is not impossible and David (India) can take on Goliath (USA / Europe / Russia / China) to emerge victorious. Indian firms are showing confidence, as in a bid to expand their business; they stride into a marketplace dominated by the west, snapping up small to medium firms, and some large ones, as well. Atta Girl, India! Way to go!
