The Most Beautiful and Desirable Places to Live in the United States

by Mark Etinger

Each region of the country has its own special gems. Usually these gems involve some form of water, because ever since human civilization began, cities and towns have been settled on rivers, lakes or oceans. These gems are such in terms of warm weather and desirability, not necessarily the biggest city or most rugged beauty.

On the east coast, there are a few states that are especially beautiful year round. Cape Cod is cold during the winter but is especially beautiful in its rugged nature. During the summer, it is the premier destination for east coast vacationers. Florida is another gorgeous area of the country. Its warm weather and semi-tropical flora and fauna make it a very desirable place to live, which is why the price of a Florida beachfront condo always rebounds, as it did after the crash of the '20s and the Great Recession of a few years ago.

The Gulf Coast of Texas is also exceptionally beautiful. The open expanse of Gulf seems like a small ocean, and the mild weather during the winter makes it very desirable. Arizona is another hot spot (literally). The Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale metro area gets lots of sun every year and Arizona doesn't follow any daylight savings time rules.

California is another gem. From La Jolla in the South to Napa in the north, it's one of the few regions in the world with a Mediterranean climate. Its entire coastline is a National Monument, and is filled with State Parks and even some National Parks too.

Of course living right on the water is expensive. But when choosing where to live, it's good to know about the most desirable places and why they are so. Wealth attracts wealth. So that unless you want to retire or live in a home far away from your neighbors and a community, expect to pay a premium to live near the ocean in a hot town. Cities on rivers are usually less expensive because they typically don't have the international access coastal cities do. But the goal is to find a hidden gem, a place that hasn't been uncovered by everyone else. California's southern and central coast is too expensive for most people to afford. But a hundred miles north of San Francisco, property is considerably less expensive. Florida's east coast is very pricey, but their west coast has spots that have yet to be uncovered.

Ultimately, when looking for a beautiful place to live, take into consideration how much you want to spend, and how many people you want to live near.
