I Was Born The Day I Discovered What Life Is

by Fenton Yong

I was frustrated. I was doomed and I didn’t know what to do with my life. Though my heart was still pumping, I was lifeless. I felt like a zombie.“What’s life for?” I shouted to the sky. There was no reply. Indeed God must be fooling me; HE made me a loser. HE even did not answer when I ask for guidance. If I were to act the God, there would be no misery for human kind in this world.Suddenly, someone pushed me from behind and I fell down from that tall building. It was really tall but I was unable to recall how tall was it. Perhaps taller than the tallest building in the world. During the fall, I felt bliss and it seemed that time did not exist except that present moment. I closed my eyes and let go. Suddenly, a force snatched me from the fall and as I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a beautiful garden. It was truly perfect and indescribable with words. It could only be expressed through feelings. As I was enjoying the moment, a great old man approached me. He said, “Son, isn’t that beautiful?” “It is,” I answered. “It is the most beautiful place that I have ever been.”“You got me wrong, what I mean is your life,” he said again.I was puzzled but I agreed with him since I was in a perfect joy and instantly I replied, “Well, life is beautiful.”He smiled and said, “You weren’t before your arrival here.” “Well, I guess this place changed my life,” I replied.“This place only exist in your mind,” the great old man said again.I was stunned hearing his reply. Just as I turned my head to look at him, all things suddenly disappeared before my very eyes. As I looked down at my feet, I began to fall again and I realized that it was the same position before I was snatched away. Though I was falling fast, I had no fear. I was still in bliss. I almost reached the ground when suddenly I opened my eyes and somehow, found myself in a garden, not the same garden I’ve just been. I guessed I was so stressed up and tired until I fell asleep. It might be a dream or somehow I really reached there when I temporarily abandoned my body here. However, that great old man saying was so real that it seemed that he spoke directly into my head. His words awakened me. I was not frustrated anymore and life suddenly began to have meanings. I was reborn that day in that perfect moment.“Life is what you give meaning to.” No matter how hard your life seems to be, it’s just the meaning that you attach to it. Get a new meaning and life changes accordingly. You are always in total control, circumstance is just the reflection of the meaning that you give to life.Remember, life is never a struggle; life is a meaning that you give to it. Make it meaningful and it will, make it meaningless, it will too.
