How Garden Fountains Are Soothing To Your Senses
How do you feel when you picture the ocean in your mind? What about when you listen to a rain storm outside the window? Imagine the taste of a tall glass of ice cold water on a blazing hot day. When you are thinking of water, all types of water, you are tapping into all of your senses.
Most images of water are soothing to the eye: the rolling waves of high tide on a beach, a beautiful waterfall in Hawaii, water trickling down a creek bed, glossing over rocks of all shapes, sizes and colors, and even a crisp, clear swimming pool with the bright sun shining overhead. Are you relaxed yet?
How water feels on your body can be interpreted in many ways. This mostly depends upon individual preferences. A massaging shower with multiple nozzles spraying on all parts of your body is delightful to some. Jumping in a cold river in the middle of winter might be appealing to others.
The sounds of water are often soothing. Some people sleep to a sound machine, which is filled with different water sounds. Many find it relaxing to sit near a towering, loud waterfall, while others prefer to sit quietly near the gentle water flow of a garden fountain. A beach, with its waves crashing against the shore, can be pleasant and tranquil.
When your throat is so dry it feels like you are swallowing sand, is there anything better than an ice cold glass of water? With a little lemon added? What about getting pushed around by a wave and getting a mouthful of salt water? That's not so pleasant. Similarly, a gulp of chlorinated pool water isn't the ideal beverage either. Some water is refreshing, some not so much.
A scent that is filled with many memories for people is that of the damp, salty air from the beach. The warm breeze that flows from the ocean to the sandy beach is filled with wonderful aromas. Likewise, the damp misty smell following a rain storm is often pleasing.
When enjoying water, we tend to use multiple senses at one time, facilitating a most relaxing state of mind. A good way to frequent this calm state is to create a similar environment in your home. This can be an area inside, like a cozy sitting room, or outside, like a beautifully landscaped garden. Consider adding a decorative garden fountain to your space for maximum enjoyment. The kindly continuous movement of water in a fountain will surely soothe your senses. Garden fountains are available in many shapes, sizes and colors. One will be just right for your space.
