Causes of Construction Sites Accident

by Ivonne Jade Agustin

With the global crisis that we are experiencing, it is very important that we maintain financial stability.

People often resort to working two jobs and others even do hazardous jobs even if it puts their health or even their lives at risk. One of the most hazardous jobs that one could have is to be working at a construction site.

Construction Workers Are At Risk

People often sustain injuries while working here because of the heavy machineries operated and unstable blocks of cement are also found in construction sites.

Sadly, increasing number of people working in construction sites in California dies each year.

Causes of Their Injuries and Death

• Defective construction equipment and machineries - Operators of heavy machineries often sustain injuries and even die because of defects in the equipments.

When they malfunction, they are putting both the operator and other construction workers around in great danger.

Manufacturers are to blame for these faulty equipments.

• Falling debris - Not all construction workers are wearing safety hard hats all the time. Even if they do, freak accidents happen.

They may suffer from neck injuries if a piece of wood hit their heads. They may also sustain superficial wounds that would require a great deal of medication.

• Negligence of their co-workers - There are workers who at times fail to consider the welfare of others. There are those who are run over by heavy equipments because the operator did not see them.

Others are results of unintentional harm done by other construction workers.

• Faulty Electrical Wiring - Construction sites are often burnt because of faulty wirings that are exposed. Workers are sometimes electrocuted because of the open wires scattered and are still waiting to be installed properly.

Explosions usually result from installations of wirings by a non-professional who is usually a victim in this situation.

• Weak foundation of the site - When the foundation of the building is not strong enough, it would collapse causing people underneath it to be buried alive.

This problem could have been prevented if the weight of the materials is properly calculated and the foundation itself is balanced.

• Unsafe or lack of equipments - Some construction company does not provide proper equipments and tools for their workers so the workers are forced to improvise.

These improvisations are often the cause of injuries or fatalities in the construction site.

For example, a ladder made of materials that are not strong enough to withstand the daily use of the workers often break causing workers using it to fall.

Though several factors may contribute to the growing number of fatalities in construction sites, there are ways to prevent them from happening.

Relatives of victims of these accidents can seek the help of a lawyer who would guide them in getting proper compensation for fatalities or injuries sustained by the victims.

Though we are in a time where financial obstacles are experienced by our country, we need not put our lives at risk. There are countless ways to prevent accidents.

Caution and wise decision-making is needed when working in a hazardous place.
