Computer Parts 101
If you are like most people who own a computer, you know how to turn it on and you know how to make it do what you want it to (at least most of the time!), but you do not know much about the insides. If something happens to your computer and it stops working, you probably know if it needs a Macbook replacement screen, iPad parts or a new monitor, but that it probably as far as your technical knowledge goes.
It is important for you to have knowledge that is a little more detailed than that for a couple of reasons. The first is so that you can make the proper comparisons when it is time to go shopping for a new computer. The other reason you should have additional knowledge about the inner workings of your computer is that if something breaks, it will help you to narrow down what the problem is. Having a general idea of the problem that your pc is having can also help you decide if you should buy a new one or if it is worth it to try and get it fixed.
The parts that people consider to be the brains of the computer are built into processors and motherboards. The keyboard, mouse, monitors, etc are all just devices that help you as the user interface with the motherboard. Most processors these days are produced by AMD and Intel and either one should work well for your pc. The type that comes with your computer just depends on what the makers of the computer usually use. The chipset and motherboard have a lot more options available. You should probably research these options, because what you need is dependent upon your budget, usage and other details like that.
If you have a computer, you should also be aware of the power supply, the hard disk drive, video cards and memory. The video card on your computer is also known as a graphics card or display card. Your computer should also have a sound card and in most cases these days, this is built into your computer. This is also true of the LAN cards and modems that are required to connect your computer to the internet. The fact that these components are frequently housed inside of the computer sometimes makes it difficult to diagnose the specific problem when they occur. However, a specialist in computer repair will be able to easily identify the specific problem you are having.
The power supply for your pc is critical because it is not just supplying the power for the pc itself. The cord provides power separately to each piece of the unit. This includes the hard disk drive, cooling fans, led displays and CD/DVD players. It is critical for you to have a steady and strong power supply. The operating system of your computer is what converts all of the hardware into something that makes sense to you as the user. Microsoft Windows is definitely the popular operating system in the world.
