5 Steps to Setting and Achieving Your Goals
There is a plethora of information available on the importance of goals setting yet the majority of people never take the time to sit down, think about, and actually write their goals out. Actually only approximately 3 of people have written out there goals and made plans to accomplish them. The fact is with clear specific goals in place about what you want to accomplish, your mind goes to work to bring them to reality. Having clear and specific goals in place will provide you with direction and allow for you actions to be guided in a way which results in you getting what you want in life (the accomplishing of your goals). I have discovered a method by which to write out your goals that I have used over and over again and has proven very effective in my life. Before we get into the actual process, realize your goals must be written. Having them written and posting them in place where you can see them on a daily basis (best if you can see them numerous times throughout the day) allows the goals to be crystallized into your mind, allowing your subconscious to go to work in bringing them about. I cannot overstate the importance of actually writing your goals. Just thinking about them is not good enough, you must write them out. The first step in the goal setting process is to clear identify and define the goal. Before you begin applying yourself to achieve something, you must know what it is you are after. By defining exactly what it is that you want to achieve, you give yourself direction and something to focus your action towards. The second step in the goal setting process is to date when you would like to reach the goal. Bounding the goal by a date will create a sense of urgency in your mind. By creating a time frame for your goal, you can better figure out what must happen in order for you to reach the goal on the time frame you have given yourself. The third step in the goal setting process is for you to define and write out the obstacles you face in reaching your goal. This is a vital step and one many people never take. When you figure out what could stop you from achieving your goal you can then figure out how to surmount those obstacles. These obstacles are the things that will stop you from reaching your goal. By defining them and then attacking each of them individually, you will be able to move past them and be able to reach your goal. Really think about what could possibly stop you from reaching your goals as by identifying these constraints, you can then make a plan to get past them and subsequently reach your goal. The fourth step in the goal setting process is to create specific action steps. These action steps should be focused on what you can do to overcome the obstacles you face. Realize that the obstacles are the only thing standing between you and your goal. If you eliminate the obstacles then you must reach your goal. By writing out clear actions steps that you can take, you go to work directly on the only thing standing between you and your goals. The final step in the goal setting process is to track and review your goals. Decide how often you want to track and review your progress and then do it! This will ensure you stay on track and give you a better chance of achieving your goal in the time frame you have set. Tracking and reviewing is very important as it is what allows you to see the progress you have made and will let you see where exactly (which action step) you need to focus on if you removed one obstacle and are ready to tackle the next. This goal setting process is extremely effective as it allows you to identify the key obstacles and constraints standing between you and your goal and then to carefully craft an action plan to surmount them. If you decide to become one of 3 of people that have clearly defined and written goals you will experience tremendous prosperity in your life. Goals give people direction and allow them to focus their minds and activities on getting what they want in life. Get your goals set and posted and you will dramatically improve what you are able to accomplish.
