Sharing Your Artwork Online

Every artist has the need to express their creations and receive a pat on the back for all their hard work. This used to be achieved by showing family and friends what they had been doing in their spare time. However, there is a better way and I will list a handful of sites and tools that artists can use to spread their artwork to a larger group of people.

I have been drawing, painting, printing and creating artwork throughout my whole life, but have only recently had the ability to share it with the world at the click of a button. Using sites such as Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook allows artists to upload and share a picture of their latest artwork.

At first the whole Internet concept was all very overwhelming, however the sites listed above are fantastic to start off with, as they are created for people like me who are a little technologically handicapped. If you have found this article you are probably doing a little better than I was when I first started.

Now that you have signed up to these sites you are probably wondering who is going to see your work since you have no followers, friends or subscribers. The easiest way to get the ball rolling is to search others that use similar art techniques and follow them. Of course you can follow your favourite celebrities as well but don't count on them to build your audience. Once you are following a few people at least one or two will follow you back. It also helps having a nice thumbnail picture of your artwork or yourself. This makes your online identity seem human; no one is going to follow someone with the default thumbnail and no postings.

Once you have a few followers start updating the listed sites once or twice a week, making sure to respond to any comments as this also adds a little more character to your accounts. Once you start you just can't stop, keep updating your works as they come and your followers will slowly increase. Don't expect follower numbers to jump dramatically unless you have created the next Mona Lisa.

Just to make sure you got everything the steps are: 1. Sign up to Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook 2. Fill out all of the profile information and choose a good thumbnail 3. Post a few things to start off your profile 4. Follow others using the same art technique or mediums 5. Interact with comments 6. Update as you create your masterpieces

I hope this helps, I have personally done this process at www.sarapaxtonartworks.com if you wish to have a look and get some ideas.
