"HOME INVASIONS THROUGH SLIDING GLASS DOORS" Biggest reasons that sliding doors are so easy to break into!the following is information about new doors being made and how you can make your older doors more secure.

Now today they are manufacturing sliding glass doors that have alot more security aspects to it then the older ones . the biggest is they have improved the rail height on both the top and the bottom of the rails itself, which as a result leaves little to no play in the doors ability to be lifted up and out of the rails, to keep your home from being broken into as these are the weakest points of entry into any home. And so many robberies and home invasions are done in this area because of it's weaknesses, as the company's now a days have made great strides to improve on these type of doors but they still are the weakest link in your home.

the following are what companies have done to improve the security of these doors itself. to improve security in these area's, is # 1 the most typical doors that have the biggest problems are doors made before 2010,the have made great improvements since then for anyone to be able to jimmy these doors in many ways most important is they have built the track in the doors slide on to a 1 inch high rail ,which greatly reduces anyone from prying the door up and pulling it out towards them, but you have to know pay attention a little more to the aspect of tripping on these higher rails ,but you have to give up convienence to have security sometimes, as that is how most are broken into.

And in florida just about everyone has these doors in there home.

So here are some simple ways to improve the security factor for these doors, if you have older doors you will notice that they do have alot of play and the rails the slide on are barely 1/2 inch high so here is were we need to make some improvements, number one if there is play in the up and down of the door you can tighten this very easily, first you will see the holes on the bottom of the doors that tighten the rollers, a phillips screw driver can help you take a little play out in this area just by slightly tightening them alone, but remember they still have to slide so you cant tighten them to much just enough to snug it up, and while your down there looking at things, check your rollors to see if they may have got worn to the point they barely stay in the rail,it's at that point you need to replace them, when a door is opened and closed so much they are bound to get loose and create play in the door, and some of the rollers may just downright need to be replaced, you can usually tell by looking how much roller is left and should be at leasst 1'4 of a inch or more or replace them and they will actually cause the door to open and close much easier.

Now the biggest worry in older doors is that the rails were not built very high in the older models or through years of open and closing have had some wear, which has created lots of play 75% of these doors you can just use a screwdriver and put under the door and lift it up right over the rail, and this is were the biggest problem comes to play, I have fixed many of doors with this problem and it will keep that unwanted person from making this older door basically a open door.

In the top of each door you drill a small pilot hole so you can insert a larger bit and use a 3/8 lag nut and screw into your hole always using a bit smaller bit than 3/8 and screw this lag nut into the top rail of each side of your doors, what you do is screw this lag nut into the top rail and then back it out so the door still opens and closes but you know have taken the play out of it so that it can not be lifted up & out with out a whole lot of work,(but remember do this on both sides.

then you can go to to your local hardware store and by the pins with chains so we can know take the pay out of the side to side , you do this once a again by starting a pilot hole in the center of the doors were they meet together In the alumunim, and then drill it through to the pins specifications, one on top and one on bottom, and if you want etra security you can even put these pins were the door lock is above or below this way if they try to jimmy the lock itself which I'm sure you have seen there not that greatest locks in the world it gives you that added protection and for just a few more dollars you can add a 110 decimal alarm that just goes off when the door is seperated great for when your out of town, that would go off should the doors be opened which would scare most burglers off as they are going to assume you have a alarm, when you only spent 5.00 max for this Item.it will be the best 5.00 to 10.00 you ever spent, this alone will improve your security by at least 50 to 75 % more than what you had, and the only other outlet they will have, so the only way in left is to break out the glass(now this becomes risky for them due to noise itself) which your door glass is plated glass and not the easiest thing to do, even on older doors I have thrown bricks at them, and they did not break and should they ,well lets just say it will be loud enough for a neighbor to hear.

so pump it up,your total invest ment will be about 20.00 bucks and a little time, and now will eliminate one problem major problem area

Next week I will give you more Ideals to detour burglers from your home or at least make it a fight for them and usually if it's a fight they tent to choose easier targets as when I began this I had seen these doors opened in less than 10 seconds, and they were all locked up with a board in them as well,so please take my advice to heart as things unfotunetly are not getting any better out ther the national crime rate average is the highest it's ever been in the past few years and climbing,So Be safe have a great New Year and hope to be back with you soon, Sincerly Bill Plunkett
