Best Grand Canyon National Park Sunset Helicopter Adventures Are Number One

by Lea Fallon

One of the best times to view the Grand Canyon is during sunset. And the best way to experience it at this time of day is by helicopter. Read more about these outstanding tours. Check out this article.

Las Vegas Departing Tours

One advantage of booking a Vegas helicopter tour is you can book an air-only tour or one that lands at the canyon. Of course, you'll see the best the canyon has to offer from the air as well as great views of Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. The air-only tours fly over all the main landmarks at the West Rim and then circle back to Vegas, while the landing tours set down on the rim or canyon floor.

Of course I recommend landing tours. Why's that? Because you have a personal experience at the canyon. One of the landing tours takes you down to the bottom of the canyon where you can enjoy a fun champagne picnic. Sunset is a special time to be at the bottom of the canyon as shadows dance around the canyon's bare rock walls.

These chopper tours are available in basic or deluxe forms. Deluxe tours all depart from The Strip, whereas the basic air tours fly from nearby Boulder City. When you buy a deluxe tour you also get an aerial view of Vegas since your chopper lifts off and lands on the Strip, plus you also get free transportation to the helipad in a limousine.

When you take the sunset tour, it will be dusk on your return flight to Vegas. You'll be treated to a spectacular sight as the neon lights of the city come alive. The resorts are beautiful from the air, including the impressive Stratosphere Tower and the amazing Luxor Pyramid.

Another key advantage of taking a deluxe flight is that you will fly in the superior EcoStar 130 heli. These aircraft provide ultimate views because of the 180 degree wraparound windows. They also feature a large cabin and bucket seats that are arranged in a way that everyone gets a ?front row' view. Frankly, flying anything less than an EcoStar kind of lessens the awesomeness of the tour, in my opinion.

Touring The South Rim

Tusayan, Arizona is a small city that sits outside the main gates of the Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim. There is an airport located in Tusayan, and it is the departure point for South Rim tours. You can choose either a half-hour, or extended 50 minute flight when you depart from Arizona. You can take a sunset flight here too, just book the last flight of the day. Just be sure you book your tour at least two weeks ahead of time or it may be full when you're ready to go.

The longer, fifty minute flight is the best option if you have the time and money. It costs a little more, but you'll get to see nearly 3/4 of the entire park on the tour. The National Park is more than a million acres in size and covers a lot of wilderness!

Fly At Sunset

While the canyon is beautiful any time of day, it has dramatic beauty at sunset. The colors of the Grand Canyon are especially impressive during the day's last light.

You won't ever forget your Grand Canyon helicopter tour. There's no place quite like the Grand Canyon anywhere else on earth, and when you see it at sunset, you get to witness it at its most beautiful.
