Do You Have A Troubled Teen In The Family?

by Andrew Bui

Getting a troubled teen help as soon as possible is very important, though it is difficult for most caregivers to know when their child is in trouble. It is true that most teens go through several hormonally fueled phases in their adolescence, but it is crucial that adults get a truly disturbed teen help as soon as possible. Adults who are truly vigilant of their child's behavior will see multiple, clear-cut indications that their youngster needs help. When these indicators are apparent the adult caregivers in the teen's life need to do all that they can to seek out professional care.

Most often some of the first indicators of disturbance when it comes to a teenager will be those that relate to their social life. One of the first signs that most parents notice is a complete transition in the peers that their child spends time with. This can be hard for parents to spot at first, because at this age there is some normal grounds for seeking out the company of people who are quite different, as a means of self actualization. Though normal exploration is nothing to fret about, generally when there is a sudden and dramatic alteration to your child's regular set of friends, particularly one that they would prefer to hide from you, something deeper is at play.

Another socially associated clue that your youngster is experiencing emotional turmoil is if they begin to completely isolate themselves from others, particularly their family and their peers. It is a conventional part of teenage growth to wish to spend time enjoying at least a few friends in a social manner, when a teen drops these friends all together that is usually an indicator that something is wrong- most often something psychological. Abandoning social relationships to spend hours in isolation isn't a good sign; parents need to always pay close attention to this and consider finding a psychological evaluation for their youngster.

Drug abuse is a big sign of trouble that shouldn't be disregarded by parents, no matter how minor the instance. This generation's parents tend to take a laidback look at minor drug usage, as they embrace this phase in life as one of great experimentation. Although there are some types of drug experimentation that can be chalked up to curiosity, more often than not, this type of experiment is a scream for help that should be thoroughly investigated.

These are just some of the clear signs that you are living with a troubled teen. The best indicator that a teen is in trouble is their parent's intuition, which should never be ignored.
