Italian Wardrobes, The Ultimate Storage Solution

by Tina Mahony

Surely a wardrobe is a just wardrobe? Actually, your wardrobe is one of the most important pieces of furniture in your bedroom. How much it holds, how well organized it is & how easy everything in it is to get to will dictate how you start your day, & how much time you spend choosing your clothing each morning.

A badly organized wardrobe with everything stuffed in it means you will not be able to see everything, & unless you have special spaces for items like ties, scarves & belts they will be hidden from view - along with half of the clothing you so carefully chose & bought.

Which is why Italian wardrobes are so good. Every wardrobe is modular, made of cabinets in a choice of sizes so you can make the most of the width you have available. They are also really tall, at least 2.3 metres, which means you have a load of space at the top to keep spare blankets, your out of season wardrobe, suitcases etc, everything that you would struggle to find a place for usually.

These wardrobes are made to order too, so you don't need to fit in with the type of storage inside, you design it to fit around you instead. Apart from the fact that you can put your clothes rails & shelves exactly where you want them wardrobes from Italy have an endless choice of accessories for the inside.

There are special tie racks or tie/scarf drawers, belt racks or drawers, pull out shirt shelves, trouser racks & skirt racks & even pull out shoe racks. They can have LED lights in them that automatically switch on when you open the doors so you can see everything clearly, & clothes rails that are right up the top of the wardrobe, but have a handle hanging down so you can pull them down to get to the clothing on them & then let go & they go back to the top again.

You can have pull out wire baskets for knitwear & internal chests of drawers for storage of small items like jewellery, cufflinks etc. Drawers can be put half way up or at the bottom, & are available in dozens of different sizes. There is even a new module for handbag storage, a full length, pull out unit that can hold over 20 handbags (or hats).

If you have room you can also create a dressing table within the wardrobe too, a hole in the back for a power cable & you can keep hairdryers, hair straighteners etc inside, with a shelf for cosmetics & a mirror, all of which will be out of sight when you are not using it.

Finally, Italian wardrobes have, without question, the largest number of designs for the doors. The doors can be glass, mirrored, wood or lacquer, or a combination of several of these. They can have beautiful textures, raised strips running vertically, fabulous handles or handles that are hidden in the side of the doors. Rather than the same boring three colours you can have colours that complement your bedroom, & some wardrobes even have doors that can be painted with the same paint you use on the walls.

For choice, quality & the best storage possible wardrobes from Italy win hands down, & are always a wise investment.
