UT3: Make your aim better
When you are playing a first person shooter the most vital aspect of succeeding is your aim. When your rival has better aim then you do it's quite difficult to win, but still possible with superior strategy and maybe some luck.
This article is about unreal tournament 3, but most of what's in it works for all fps-games.
Most of the time, the player with the better accuracy will play aggressive and that will cause the other player(s) to feel stress and he/they won't be able to perform at 100%. This makes it easier to win for the person with the superior accuracy.
There are a few simple ways to practise on your aim. But first you need to change all your settings to the most effective ones. In Unreal tournament 3 this means: - Setting to weapon hand to hidden, so it doesn't block the view for part of the screen. - Turning weaponbob to false, to boost the stability in accuracy. (weaponbob is the effect of a weapon going up and down slightly while on the move) - Turn landingshake off, to boost accuracy when landing. (landingshake makes you slightly duck when you land from a jump or fall) - Set visual quality and resolution to a setting where you have at least 40+ frames per second in heavy combat.
Now that we've done that we can focus on the other methods to improve accuracy. It is important to get the fact that there are two types of weapons.
The 1st type of weapons are weapons that instantly hit. You aim directly at the enemy and if your aim is accurate you hit when you fire. The 2nd type of weapons are projectile based weapons. They shoot a projectile (a shock ball for instance) and it takes some time before it hits. So you have to predict where your rival is gonna be and predict how fast the projectile hits. This makes most of these weapons only effective for short and medium distances.
Aim can only be improved by training, there are no fast shortcuts. However when you train with the explicit goal of improving your accuracy, it really speeds up things and you can become an "aim artist" quite fast. If you only "train" with normal matches your accuracy will still increase, just not as fast. And you'll hit the dead spot sooner, where your aim doesn't improve anymore until you use a better training method.
When you're practicing on the 1st type of weapon your accuracy for the 2nd type of weapon will also improve. And vice versa. But nevertheless the training methods are foremost focused on one of those 2 weapons types.
To train the direct hit type weapons: First start an offline game without any bots. Now let's use a cheat code so you can concentrate entirely on your accuracy. Open the command line (press tab) and type "loaded", now press enter for all weapons and infinite ammunition.
Choose the shock rifle and shoot a shockball (secondary fire) now fire at the shockball with a shockbeam (primary fire) to generate a shock combo where the shock ball explodes.
You're going to practice shooting shock combos while moving around. shoot them while running and dodging to make it tough on yourself.
If you do this on regular basis your accuracy will boost pretty fast. : After a while you can make it more difficult. For instance use a cheat code to decrease the size of the shockball. There are a few more tricks, but this above exercise gives the best results for new players. Novice and skilled players still improve with this training method, but there are better methods for those players; which I won't describe here because Of length.
To train the trajectory type weapons:
This training is actually a lot less boring, but less effective. Still way better (for increasing accuracy) then just playing a match though. Start a game with a friend (just the 2 of you). Choose a weapon that you want to practise on and only use that weapon to try and kill your pal. The friend should not use any weapon and should try to steer clear of everything you shoot. This way you train that particular weapon and (s)he trains avoiding projectiles.
Switch turns during the game and switch what weapon you/(s)he use(s) for some extra training and fun.
With these two training methods you're bound to increase your accuracy in a short time period.
For additional training you can take one weapon and ONLY use that weapon for a few matches.
