Raising a child is one of the most difficult thing a parent can do. It is a never ending job even when your children become grow up and live on their own. However, it's what we do in the formative years that make the greatest impact on our children's success in the present as well as the future. One of these activities is becoming involved in your child's school. Many studies overwhelming prove that parent involvement increases student achievement. There are many parent involvement ideas for you to get involved in the life of your child.

Show Teachers You Care

Effective schools are ones that want parents to take an interest in what their kids are doing. Teachers sometimes don't like to contact parents, and are a little hesitant, so you can show that you don't bite by helping them out. Contact the school, or the teacher, and let them know you want to help.

Stay In Contact with Your Child's Teacher

Get a notebook and have all your child's assignments listed in them. This shows you what your child is doing daily. This can foster a good relationship between you and the teacher. All you have to do is look at what is happening daily, and then put down your signature so that the teacher will see that you have viewed it. And, if you want to add any comments or questions, you can do that too. Email is another way for you to stay in contact. You can email the teacher about school or grade activities.

Volunteer From Home

Be a volunteer from the comfort of your own home. If you don't want to travel to the school for any number of reasons, then this would be good for you. Teacher always need help grading papers, reading student stories, or preparing materials. You may want a packet of papers sent home so that you can put some neat little stickers on them or by making templates for designs the teacher has a plan for. You could even use your phone by making phone contacts for the teacher or school.

Volunteer at the School

Volunters are also needed in the classroom. You can do this by choosing a specific day to help the class or grade. Many teachers give out parent surveys at the beginning of the school year to solicit volunteers. These surveys help to identify parent interest and availability. Talk to the teacher to find out his or her needs and learn how you can get involved.

Help with Sporting Events

Sporting events is a very popular way to get involved. You can sell tickets at the ticket booth or even candy and other items at the concession stand. School spirit wear is a way to involve yourself. You can sell these and even take orders to raise money for the school.
