Choosing The Right Camcorder For A Wedding

by Jamie Simpson

There are some important things to remember when choosing a camcorder for a wedding. One of the most important events in a person's life, you want to make sure that the quality of the video you're taking is top notch, and you want to be able to pass these visual memories down generations.

The lenses are one of the most vital parts of your new camera. The lenses are in charge of the scope, magnification and range that your camcorder will have. It's also important that the lenses give you the sharpest image possible. If a camcorder you're considering has a macro feature, try using that to see exactly how sharp the image can become. Larger lenses will help you if there is low lighting at the wedding or reception. Be sure to look for the best optical zoom you can find, not digital. High digital zoom will give you a less sharp video.

Since you'll be having lots of fun at the wedding and will likely be on your feet a lot, make sure that the camcorder you choose is lightweight. You can find camcorders that will fit right into the palm of your hand, and it's best to choose one that you're able to use with only one hand. Try to choose one that, even if not very small, is not too bulky.

You'll also want a camcorder with good audio capabilities. You may want to interview the wedding guests, and give them a chance to greet the bride and groom, with an external microphone. It may be prudent to choose a camcorder with this capability.

The minimum pixel count that you want is 340,000. This will give you really great video quality. You want your images to be as crisp as possible with no graininess. The higher the pixel count, the better quality your video will be.

Of course, cost may be a big concern of yours as well. You want to get the most bang for your buck. Even after all of the above factors, you can usually find a decent camcorder that shouldn't break the bank too badly, as camcorders these days are only getting better and better in quality overall. Compare prices with the features that come with the camcorder, such as an internal flash reader, a webcam, an MP3 player, a digital camera, options for additional languages and widescreen. You'll also want to compare prices with any accessories that you may receive. Some accessories that you may want to purchase along side your new camcorder are a sturdy tripod, wrist strap, external lights and lens converters. Most will come with a case, cables, batteries and a charger.

Be sure to have fun at the wedding, while you're taking your amazing quality video and still shots!
