How to Seal Travertine Pavers
Travertine belongs to the limestone family and it is also one of the most popular types of stones used for home decoration. Travertine, especially silver travertine is often used in new homes and renovations as it has aesthetic appeal. You can get different textures of travertine pavers like polished, honed etc.
Now, when you install travertine pavers in your house, it is not essential that you seal them but still doing so helps in preventing them from wear and tear. Follow these steps to seal the travertine pavers-
1) Decide which kind of sealant you want to use for the travertine pavers. Even though the water based sealants and oil based sealants provide good protection you might want to have a matte finish rather than the glossy finish which the pavers would get from them. So, choose any conventional sealant instead. 2) Before you start you need to sweep the entire travertine area so that there is no dust or debris left. 3) With the help of a roller apply adequate amount of the sealant on the pavers. Make sure that the sealant covers every single portion of the pavers and allow it to penetrate their surface for at least 15 minutes. If the stones are porous then even 10 minutes would be enough but if the stones are dense then you should wait for at least 30 minutes. Wipe off the extra sealant with the help of a sponge afterwards. 4) If there is a need then apply a second coat. Let the second coat stay on the stones for at least half an hour. 5) After 6-8 hours you can walk on the stones lightly. To keep the silver travertine stones protected reapply the sealant after every 2-3 years.
