The Benefits Of The Proclear Sphere

by Steven Hutt

People have been fitted for contact lenses since at least the 19th century. At first they were made out of glass and were hard, didn't allow oxygen to penetrate the lens and risked scratching the eye. Later, they were made more flexible, but these contact lenses couldn't be worn for more than a few hours a day before they needed to be taken out of the eye and cleaned. Cooper Vision's hydrogel contact lens, the Proclear Sphere, is a new system of ultra-comfortable contact lenses. The wearer can finally toss away their glasses and wear these contacts all day, unlike other contacts that after a few hours irritate the eye or cause blurred vision.

The makers of the Proclear lens can do this because the lenses are made out of phosphorylcholine (PC) molecules which are also found in the membranes of human cells. Water is attracted to these molecules and come to encircle them, so the lenses don't dry out and remain comfortable even after a person keeps them in for a half a day. The PC formula also reduces fats and other debris that usually accumulate over the day on other sorts of contact lenses.

Most people who use Proclear find them exceptionally comfortable and that their vision remains clear throughout the day. Users also found them a good value. Though Proclear can be bought at most drugstores, the contacts need to be prescribed by a licensed eye doctor or eye specialist.

Proclear is made for people who are nearsighted or have some astigmatism.

The Proclear contact lens is meant to be used on a four week schedule, then replaced. They shouldn't be used past their replacement date. This means that unlike contact lenses that are only worn once and discarded, they need to be cleaned and returned to a sterile receptacle when they're taken out of the eye. The lenses are cleaned with an enzymic solution to make sure protein deposits are completely removed so they don't impair the contact lens or irritate the eye. Lens cases should also be cleaned and replaced on a regular basis.

The lenses can be bought in boxes of six, which means that they'll generally give the user about half a year of wear.

The Proclear lens shouldn't be used by people who've had Sjogrens Syndrome Tear Deficiency, or who have inflammation of the lens, iris or cornea or the eye. They also shouldn't be used by people who've had any disease or injury to the eye, or an abnormality that would affect their eyes or eyelids. They shouldn't wear them if they tend to have allergic reactions to wearing contact lenses and should stop wearing the lenses if their eyes become inflamed or irritated.

When the patient is first prescribed the Proclear Sphere, their eye doctor will make sure they know how to easily put in and remove the lenses. The doctor will also teach the patient how to clean and take care of their contact lenses, including cleaning, storing, wearing and disinfecting them.
