Whether your requirements are storage and records management, moving or distribution of products to your customers having an effective packaging materials system is going to save you loads of money and make you more efficient in your business. So ideally you'll want to have a relationship with a comprehensive one stop shop that has all of your requirements in stock, in one place with simple ordering procedures both by phone and online.
Importantly, you should have developed your relationship where you have negotiated and agreed to a set of fixed prices across your entire needs catalogue and your delivery on order is in a time frame that suits your business. Hence, your supply chain for your packaging materials is developed and you can now rest easy that this part of your business is sorted.
Getting the right packaging materials is critically important to ensure your needs are met perfectly without paying excess costs for materials and also avoiding excess costs for postage and shipping costs. Your supplier will play an important role in developing the correct range of packaging products for your specific needs.
A simple guide will be to make sure you get the right boxes, have all of your dispensing tapes and dispensers in the right places, the right quantities of bubble wrap, bubble wrap mailers, paper products and dispensing rollers and cutters, tapes, foam filling material, labels, strapping, pallet wrapping cardboard products and tools such as box cutters and strapping tools. There is more to packaging materials than meets the eye and if you don't have everything you need and don't have your systems in place you'll cost yourself loads of money in efficiencies.
Packing Boxes you choose are one of the most important, if not the most important thing, that you'll buy. Where possible order boxes that are the same size and shape. Regular Slotted Cartons are the most common and most effective cartons in production today. Items that are the same size will be much simpler to pack in a moving truck and will save tons of space, and money.
Bags and Mailers cover all types of mailing requirements from courier bags to bubble mailers for postage and very tough bags that won't rip open to bubble bags for bottles.
Bubble Wrap can be ordered in plyfoam wrap to standard bubble wrap and specialty bubble wrap for items like computers and monitors. You'll need to make sure you speak to your supplier about your specific needs to get the right wrap.
Cardboard products include boxes and single face corrugated cardboard rolls which are ideal for wrapping irregular shaped items which require some protection. Typically larger products that are to heavy for bubble wrap are wrapped in corrugated cardboard paper for protection.
Invoice pouches are also known as doculopes and adhesive envelopes and are an ideal solution for attaching documents to parcels and pallets. Make sure you purchase quality invoice pouches as you do not want the adhesive to be weak and you parcels go missing because the pouch is easily torn off in transit. So strong adhesive is very important.
You'll always need lots of high-quality packing tape and dispensers. You'll most likely need a combination of budget tapes for taping bubble wrap and pallet wrap and premium tape that has a natural rubber adhesive and is the best option for taping cardboard boxes particularly when extra strength is needed. You'll need a combination of clear tapes and brown tapes for different needs.
Lastly don't forget the box cutter. You'll need to cut and cut and cut when doing your packaging every day.
