Making The Most Out Of Wine By The Month
Many states these days now allow for the purchase of wine and beer inside grocery stores. This certainly has made it easier for people when they are shopping to add it to their weekly list, but the downside of this new trend is that it ends up actually limiting people's exposure to wine. It simply becomes another commodity - like milk, eggs and bread - on their list, so then they walk down the wine aisle, they reach for the same bottle that they always do.
That is not to say there is anything wrong with finding a varietal that you like and enjoying it. However, there is a difference between wine and the other items mentioned above. With those examples, there are slight variations to consider. Do you prefer large eggs or jumbo? White bread or wheat? Whole milk or two percent? (And while we're at it: coconut, soy, almond or cow?) There is certainly a personal preference to be shown, but in the end, there is going to be a very small discernable difference.
When it comes to wine, the exact opposite is true. It is not just a matter of one choice - red wine or white? - but instead the opportunity to select between dozens of different varietals, blends and styles. The difficulty in making that new choice comes back to the issue of shopping for convenience. Very few people go to a grocery store to dawdle and take their time. They are there to get in and out. The problem then is how to combine the convenience of shopping and the opportunity for new selections. The solution is by joining a wine of the month club. These clubs do exactly what the name implies. On a monthly basis, they will deliver wine directly to your door. There are hundreds of different clubs, each with a distinct focus and several levels of membership that cater specifically to their customers' needs. People can choose a wine club that focuses on a certain varietal, or a particular region or country. Once they make their choice, the experts at the club then work to find extraordinary vineyards to fill that need, which takes away the last barrier most people have to trying new wines.
If they take the time to stop in the wine aisle and decide to try something new, how do they know what to choose? With so many choices, there is the fear they might pick the wrong one. Wine of the month clubs not only fulfill the need for convenience and variety, they also ensure that the wine chosen will be expertly crafted. Many clubs only work with vineyards that consistently rank among the top ten percent around the world, so their customers know all they have to do to get a superior bottle of wine is open the door once a month and sign for a delivery.
