What to do when storing Books and other Documents in Self Storage

by David Tang

When it comes to self storage you are able to store pretty much anything that you want to. The items that you do store however will be split into two categories, which are domestic and document self storage. There is a significant difference between the two, which is that domestic self storage is what you would opt for when storing pieces of furniture, household items and personal possessions. Document storage however is what you would use if you have important papers, books or records that you need to keep in a safe and secure location.

Sorting out document storage will actually probably take more of your time than domestic storage believe it or not! The reason for this is that with document storage you have to catalogue your documents and clearly label and make records of what documents are in storage and where about they are in storage. When you are sorting out your document self storage you should keep the following in mind:

• Make back-up documents and store them in a separate location • Consider using locked fire resistant cabinets • Make back up documents on CD or DVD • Make sure you fill the boxes that you are storing your documents in because if the boxes are partly empty the documents could move during transport and get damaged

All of the above should be kept in mind when you come to store your documents. These points demonstrate how you will be storing your documents safely and with security in mind. Also for maximum protection to your documents and books you should ensure that you pack them together in smaller cardboard boxes as larger ones would become too heavy and would leave more room for shifting, which could cause damage to the documents and the covers of the books.

Another point that I am going to make is that documents and books are items that shouldn’t be packed with anything else. It is due to this reason that you are provided with two choices when it comes to self storage, which are as previously mentioned domestic and document storage.

When it comes to you actually placing your documents into storage you need to make sure that your chosen self storage unit is one that is secure, clean and with a good climate control. To give yourself added protection it is also a good idea to wrap the boxes that your documents are in with plastic. This protects your documents and books further from aspects such as dust and water damage.

With the help of a self storage company you know that your documents will be in safe hands. You are able to gain access to your document self storage at anytime during the opening hours and you are able to place in and take out your documents at anytime that you need.

So if you need some extra space or you need a safe alternative to than your property or office to keep your documents than document self storage is perfect for you.
