The iPod Story

The iPod's importance to society couldn't be overstated. Coming out of a post-9/11 economy, it brought a healthy economic impact to a struggling economy. Just a few years ago the iPod wasn't even a concept, now it's because a huge influence in Western society and a status symbal.
The original idea for the iPod came about immediately after iTunes was released to PC's, Apple's competitor. Considering Apple was behind iTunes and the iPod, it causes many to believe that the planned release of iTunes was a strategic move to prepare society for a new revolutionary Apple product.
Conspiracy aside, Apple Computer hired Tony Fadell in 2001 to put together a snazzy portable music player. He searched around for the underlying player until he discovered PortalPlayer, and bought it as a foundation for the new musical technology.
After this, Jonathan Ive, who invented the ipod, steps up. I mean that he "invented" the iPod in the sense that he formulated the design of the iPod. The iPod is 99% design -- it's not just an mp3 player. It's an iPod.
The iPod then mixed beautiful design by Ive with a great technology and usability by Tony Fadell and PortalPlayer. The success proves that sometimes what are seen as opposites, such as usabilty and beautiful design, can compliment each other in the end.
The design of the iPod was an "out of the box" artful approach to the casing and outline of the inner workings of the tech-toy. Ive used his trademark and revolutionary simplistic style to "get the job done" without sacrificing the sexy feel that the iPod gives.
