Salient Features Of The Conveyor Belt
Explore about the conveyor belt- One of the most significant inventions of man is the wheel. Just after the wheel is introduced to usage there came in many other inventions based on this wonderful invention. All those automobiles and machineries of the present day developments are just an outcome of this great invention, the wheel.
When two wheels rotate with two centralized shafts and interconnected by means of a belt it is called as a conveyor belt system. It is said so because the system as a whole is capable of transmission of energy from unit to the other unit. The wheel which is connected to one spindle in the centre rotates at a specific revolutions per minute could transmit all its power and energy to the next idle shaft which is connected the next wheel.
This is made possible by means of connecting the two wheels with the conveyor belt. The other wheel will also start to run in the same speed of the electrically driven or somehow power driven wheel. With this energy transmitted from the secondary wheel to its own spindle, you could run a separate unit for any other application.
It is achieved by means of coupling the secondary shaft to the application that you want to run. Conveyor belt transmission of power has numerous applications in variety of machines. All those lathe machines in the workshop, the shaping machines, and the surface grinding machines, the milling machines, the boring machine, the drillers, the centre less grinders and many more production applications are simply based on this principle.
Conveyor belts come in different kinds of materials depending upon the particular type of application for which you are intending to use it. The durability is directly proportional to amount of usage. While most of them are under continuous usage when you look into some of the workshop applications as mentioned above.
You cannot stop production even for a few hours continuously where you will have to bare the proportionate amount of losses in terms of production rates. Therefore, when you are continuously running them they are under continuous pressure. Lot of stress due to a variety of tangential forces that act on them during their mobility.
It is therefore, mandatory that periodical inspections should be carried out. The supervisor should be able to notice the wear and tear of the conveyor belts and replace them well in time. This would prevent the machine from serious losses due to sudden break down.
