Freedom In Flying and Cycling
"Freedom!" was the cry that Mel Gibson's character William Wallace gave in the film Braveheart as he led his troops into battle, but there are plenty of ways to feel the thrill of freedom without painting your face blue, swinging an axe round your head and charging at several thousand Englishmen. This article explores how you can experience the same rush without the risk of being locked up.
Driving A Fast Car On An Open Road
Assuming you have a full driver's license then there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to do this. If you're fortunate enough to drive a sports car already then you'll know how much fun this can be, but even if you don't then you can know what it feels like by going to a car showroom and asking for a test drive. Some showrooms will demand that you pay a deposit, but so long as you don't damage the car you'll get it back in full. You'll also have to convince the salesman that you are interested in buying the car but that shouldn't be too much trouble.
Flying
Obviously we can't fly like a bird can, but we can gain that sense of freedom that they have by taking to the skies in a hot air balloon. Not only will you be thousands of feet from any other physical object you'll also enjoy fabulous views as you look down on the ground below you. This sense of perspective can also be incredibly liberating as you gain a new concept of the relevance of your everyday life, meaning that suddenly you feel much less bound by your commitments.
Cycling
If you're full of energy and have a decent enough bike then it's actually quite easy to get up a reasonable amount of speed - certainly enough so that you can feel that travelling anywhere on your bike is well within your grasp. The sense of freedom that this can bring has inspired people to accomplish incredible feats on two wheels, such as cycling across Asia or up South and then North America. Of course, even "normal" people can cycle long distances providing they know what they're doing, with the technology involved in bikes these days making them so much easier and more comfortable to operate.
As you can see, there are many different ways to throw off the shackles of everyday life and get that sense of freedom - who do you like to do it?
