Sperm Donor

Sperm Donation

by cryo bank

There are several sperm banks across the United States, most of them are very efficient in the services that they provide. One question that should be on the forefront of every recipient is where these facilities obtain their specimens from. Becoming a donor may seem like the easiest thing in the world, but why would someone want to become a donor and are there any specific requirements that they need to fulfill?

There will be a certain criterion that a sperm donor must satisfy before their specimen is accepted. The fact of the matter is that the percent of male donors who end up on that list is relatively small. The numbers are less than 10 percent and may even be closer to 5 percent of applicants who are eventually accepted. Some of the applicants who will not be accepted are homosexuals, individuals who use intravenous drugs and men who have a known history of certain diseases in their family genes such as sickle-cell anemia and AIDS.

The selection process to become a sperm donor is stringent at best and one may even suggest that it can be extremely invasive. Applicants are usually subjected to a considerable interview, and the application forms will generally take them back through a few generations. Blood types are thoroughly screened and so is the semen being used. The filtering process is not completed during an afternoon, a day or even a week. Applicants should expect to deal with the application process for the better part of six months. The potential income they stand to earn when it is completed could make it all worthwhile.

Other than the opportunity to generate a substantial income on the side, why would an individual wish to become a sperm donor? Some donors claim that they do it because they can provide couples with the ability to have children through a more natural process. Others like the idea of making their mark on society, without the cost and responsibility of going through the process of fatherhood. Donors have the distinct possibility of fathering dozens of children by the time they decide that they have had enough.

There are other not so obvious incentives to becoming a sperm donor, such as leaving their footprint in the world. There is also the fact that becoming a donor is a very unselfish act that requires a certain kind of person to take part in. Donors who believe that homosexual relationships should have an opportunity to have a child will be equally satisfied to know that becoming a donor can help fill that need. The most important thing to consider as a donor is that it is for a good cause, just as donating blood can be.
