The Advantages of Having International TV Programming
Our society prides itself on being a melting pot. There is a good chance of meeting someone every day who speaks a different language than you do. Even those you meet who use English as their primary communication will speak another language at home. Spanish, Chinese, Russian, French, German - the list goes on and on. Using English may make it easier to communicate in our daily lives, it is nice to be able to enjoy a native tongue at home as well as see it in our entertainment and news channels. This is where having an international television package is so important.
These international packages allow us to experience news, movies, favorite shows, and more all in our native language. This gives us the ability to enjoy familiar shows and channels from our native countries, but also gives us the ability to pass on our cultural nuances and heritage to our children, that way when we visit our respective homelands, they can feel at home because there are some very familiar shows on TV. Using a DVR (digital video recorder) will allow us to watch the shows during the hours we choose, regardless of what time they air in the US.
Quite often, the news and other informational shows provided will have a lot more information about places and people we are more familiar with than places in the US. Whether it is the politicians or celebrities from our homeland, or even news and weather from our home province or district, being able to keep up with what is occurring there can be very important, especially during times of crisis. Being able to keep up with events as they occur instead of waiting for them to make it to the US sources will offer comfort during a crisis.
However, the main limitation of the international packages is the fact that many of the major languages aren't represented at all. While there isn't a way to cover all the channels we may be used to having from our home country. And because of the limitations, many channels, shows and newscasts are simply unavailable. While there are many reasons why complete global support and coverage can't be supported, the fact that so many languages can't have at least some level of representation is a shame.
Having international programming packages available for several cultural and language groups is a good thing, Subscribe if you can, and enjoy programming in your home language. If your language is not part of the packages available, be sure to write or call the subscriber so they are aware of the need. Satellites span the globe, and the global community gets smaller every day, so why shouldn't you be able to enjoy satellite programming your way?
