Why is a college education important in the modern age
Asking why is a college education important today is a common question amongst students who are nearing the end of high school. This isn’t a surprise as the cost of getting a college education is going up and up, and many wonder if they will receive a good return on their investment – both monetary and time.
The reason going to college is important is that the global workplace is getting more and more competitive, and US students need the advantage that a good higher education can give. The number of people going on to get a Bachelors degree or higher around the world has increased greatly so going to college is almost essential just to keep up.
Also, with a degree the number of opportunities available for careers increases greatly. The highest paid and high powered jobs all generally require a degree for the applicant to even be considered, so by not going to college a student is in danger of limiting their future career prospects.
When people ask me “Why is a college education important?” I always reply that the real question is why you would not go to college. The investment a student makes in college is probably going to be the best investment they will ever make in turns of monetary value, so it doesn’t make sense not to go. Even if you can earn instant money by getting a job straight after high school, with a few years higher education you could be earning a lot more.
