Hair Style Software Makes the New You

by Avery Barber

Hair style software makes it easy! Now you can know - with absolute certainty, and well before any damage is done - just how you will look in that fantastic new hairstyle you've dreamed about. No more trial and error, misinterpretation by the hair stylist, or any other excuses. With the cheaply-available Internet-based hairstyle software, you can try a thousand different styles if you want to before committing to any.

Such sites are popping up all over. Hair Cuts and UpDos, for example, allows you to add your own photo, and then 'try on' as many as 4000 different hair styles. Some sites are a bit archaic - they restrict you to photos or drawings of models - but most have the software to handle the photos you supply of yourself. Whack those into their software and you can play forever. How would you like to look today? Punk or celebrity hairstyles, short hair styles, long hairstyles, straight hair, curly hair, highlights, colors, layering - everything your mother said you could never do!

And once you're comfortable with the technology, you can really crank up the imagination. Things you could never explain to a hairdresser now become possible. Try it, accept, reject, modify, extrapolate ... play! You'll probably be amazed at just how different a hair style can make you look. If you have special occasions that frequently come up, for instance, you can design a 'wardrobe' of different looks that portray a variety of images without ever become stale. Ideas you can print out, file, and take to the hairdresser to show her exactly what you mean.

Most of the sites operate on a subscription basis, which means that you buy the use of their software for a given period. You can then use their hairstyle software to copy a photo (or several) of you to their machines for you to play around with as often as you like. Each site is different, but most are fairly straight-forward and easy to use.

You can get the most mileage by spending a bit of time preparing before you upload your photos. It's best to get someone to take photos especially for this, because you'll want to clear all your natural hair away from your face so you can apply the software 'wig' cleanly and without interference from your real hair. Some sites will allow a variety of angles, and all require full front-on photos of your face. Slick your hair back with water or bobby pins - a ponytail is good - and take the photo to emphasize your face and its shape.

Upload your photo/s, and stretch your imagination. It's often a good idea to try a wide variety of styles and colors quickly, just to get the hang of how things look. You can often quickly discount certain hairstyles immediately - even though you may have cherished the idea for years! - and move on to spending time where the hairstyles will truly make you look outstanding.
