Planning Your Dream Wedding Video

A Wedding Video To Treasure

by Lee Williams

Having a professional videographer at your special day is the perfect way to capture those precious moments and record the experience to re-live time and again. With careful planning and preparation, you can be sure to have a film to cherish and enjoy for a lifetime. A key factor when finding your videographer is to have a skilled person behind the camera. As well as checking for recognised credentials and being registered with professional bodies, you should ask to see samples of your prospective videographer's previous work. Different recording and editing styles will appeal to different people, so it is important to have an idea of the final product and be sure it is one that you are happy with. An experienced videographer should have plenty of references available. Don't be afraid to ask for them.

Think about your posture at all times on the day, taking care to keep your shoulders back, chin high, hips tilted forwards and up, and back straight to hold yourself up elegantly and maintain a flattering pose. Practice in a mirror and even film yourself at home to familiarise yourself with your usual posture and any bad habits that you may not realise you had developed. When standing side-by-side, your inner foot should be pointing toward your partner and your heads tipped slightly together, shoulders angled toward each other so that you form a 'V' shape.

Props can be useful for adding interest to the video and disguising any unwanted blemishes, such as a parasol to hide grey skies or a shawl or wrap to cover goosebumps! Holding a bouquet, delicate bag or champagne glass will give you something to do with your hands, which can otherwise look awkward, as well as adding variety to your video clips. A bubble machine or throwing of petals or confetti provides a perfect mixture of fun and romance to images of the two of you taking your first steps as a married couple. Remember to book a cake knife for cutting the cake, which makes for a great video opportunity. The movement in tossing the bridal bouquet adds further layers to your video and images of your friends fighting over the bouquet can make for entertaining out-takes!

Ask to meet in person with your videographer ahead of the big day, to give you a chance to get to know each other and feel happy that you can entrust this important task to them and be confident that you will feel comfortable and relaxed in their presence. Helping to make you feel at ease should be high on your videographer's agenda, as natural smiles and poses will make for much better viewing. If both yourselves and your guests are comfortable with the videographer, they are much more likely to make spontaneous comments and actions that will add to the richness of the video and memories of the day.

The location will set the tone for your video. Make sure you get the consent of the venue where you are holding your ceremony and reception. Photogenic locations will be available throughout your day, but take the time to visit your venue(s) and find the particular areas you would most like to be included as a backdrop to your wedding day. Stairways, windows, fireplaces, gardens, lawns, gazebos, balconies, gateways and arches all provide good opportunities for creating interest in the frame and adding to the ambiance of the setting.

It's unlikely you'll need reminding, but remember to smile, relax and enjoy your big day! Feel confident and beautiful and make the most of this opportunity to look and feel your best, sharing your love for each other with all the people dearest to you. Make sure all of your family and friends are recorded, sharing in your special day and capturing all the joys and surprises it brings. It's a priceless treasure to have a video of your wedding day, being able to relive exchanging vows and stepping through the rituals together. It is money well spent to have a professional, successful final film, that you will enjoy throughout your years together. For most people, their wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so make the most of it and have a fabulous day.
