Typically this is the staple binding method really, and when you use this to get calendars cheaply, you will just be setting a very low lifespan for those calendar prints. With staple binding, most calendars will last just few months to half a year. This is because staples can deteriorate easily because of the moisture on the air, or the constant bending that happens when a page is torn in the calendar. That is why you should at least go for something a bit tougher like ring binding but still is more affordable.
