Businesses And Organizations Of Various Types And Sizes Can Benefit From Having 800 Numbers

by John Cory

800 Numbers can be a strong tool for businesses and organizations of all types and sizes to utilize to get ahead in the competitive environments of today. These numbers are great since they enable a business's or organization's customers and clients to call them without the customers and clients being charged anything. When customers call on these numbers, they are not billed for the call, but rather the organization or company hosting the number.

There is not just one answer as to how much a company is charged when someone makes an inbound call on a toll-free number since this depends on what type of telecommunication package the organization has and the number and types of incoming calls it takes. Clearly, it is not in the interest of any person, business or organization to simply just give away money without reason, so obviously, the companies and organizations that are using 800 numbers instead of standard local numbers are doing so because they have determined that offering their clients and customers a way to contact them toll free is in the end a way to increase their bottom lines.

Though, probably each and every one of us has called 800 numbers at one time or another since organizations have been using them since the 1960's, the new form of toll free numbers that are offered by VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service providers are new and improved. VoIP packages offering toll-free numbers provide all types and sizes of businesses and organizations many useful and powerful cost saving features. These features include inbound faxing, web interfaces, hunt groups, traditional voicemail and visual voicemail, auto attendant capability, rule-based messaging, and blacklisting capability.

Though some of these features are rather easy to understand, some are relatively new and unknown by even people who have previously hosted 800 numbers. One example of one of these new, high-powered features is the new type of faxing capabilities which actually lets a company direct incoming faxes to email in-boxes, which will cut the costs and work hours normally needed by old-time faxing.

One thing that almost no one knows anything about is the hunt groups. Having incoming calls automatically ring specific numbers is what 800 numbers hunt groups are all about. When arranged, hunt groups pre-route incoming calls. An example of this is if someone calls a human resources executive who happens to not be in, the call gets directed to her assistant. Obviously, this is an extremely crucial feature for businesses and organizations that have large staffs and a high volume of incoming calls.
