Screensavers is Dead
Screensaver was born and designed to conserve the image quality of computer displays by filling them with moving images or patterns when the computers are not in use.
The first screensaver was written for IBM PC by John Socha best known for creating the Norton Commander; and named it screen saver.This screensaver can activate itself automatically and simply blanked the screen after three minutes of inactivity.
and After Dark was an early screensaver for the Macintosh platform which show a flying toasters moving on the screen. After somtimes, many screensavers designer continue to create more creative design populating the screen with animals , fish, flash videos, and visual expressions such as fractals.
Earlier computer screens (monitor) depended on cathode ray tubes (CRTs). Images that shows on a CRT monitor are generated using electron beams. to form images line-by-line on the phosphorescent screen many times per second.
When the computer is not in use, same image is displayed on a CRT screen for long periods of time and leading to a darkened shadow on the screen which can cause phosphor burn-in and reduces the life of screen up to 50%.Screensaver were designed to avoid these effects by automatically showing and changing images on the screen when the computer was not in use.
But now we are in modern times,Modern CRTs uses advance technology and has a very low risk of burn-in than older screen models due to improvements in phosphor coatings, and because modern computer images are generally lower contrast.
At the present huge percentage of user is using laptop and laptops is using LCD ( liquid crystal display ) on their screens.This screens are totally no risk of burn in.
For these reasons, screensavers today are primarily for decoration, for entertainment. some are really spectaculars with moving images with sound effects. some screensavers can relax your mind and helps you to get out of stress specially those screensavers with sound effects of rain and thunders.
Screensavers can also be used as a security measure to prevent others from opening or accesing your computer operating system.Many screensavers can be configured to ask users for a password before permitting the user to resume work. However, other user might be able to gain access on the pc. by restarting the computer if the computer's owner has set their account to automatically log in upon windows startup.
