How to Stick to your Resolutions for the New Year

New Year, New You

Its New Year once again and with that come the usual January 'changes'. Everyone raves about starting on a new diet or kicking the tobacco habit, but how many of us actually follow through with it? It's a sad fact that most of us will have given up or simply forgotten about it before even February comes calling. However, there are things you can do that can make a big change to your head and possibly even help you to keep going with your other big changes.

Kicking a habit or sticking to a diet often fails as a result of a lack of personal change. You still stick to the other old habits that got you into that position in the first place. In order to really get 2010 off to a great start you need a change in your lifestyle or a change in yourself. There are a variety of ways in which you can give yourself the motivation to go forward or just some confidence in yourself.

But where do you start? Making a small change isn't that difficult. It's simply a matter of replacing some old habits with new ones. Simply avoiding old habits isn't enough as it is not a permanent solution. By replacing old habits you create a positive change in yourself that you can continue with indefinitely. IN order to do this you should find a friend who is looking to do something similar. If you are looking to take up a sport for instance you'll find that it is easier to commit to if there is someone else to motivate you to go. Just make sure they are as committed as you are or you'll probably find yourself flying solo before long.

Another way to motivate yourself to make small changes to your lifestyle is to make small changes to yourself. You'll often find that a change in hair colour or perfume can help you create a dividing line between this year and the last. As such you can put the finishing line on old bad habits more easily. It's surprising how a switch to Jean Paul Gaultier perfume from an old one can make a change to your head. Furthermore with the January sales in full swing it's the best time to get designer cosmetics on the cheap.

With these ideas in mind it's not impossible to make big changes this year. Every big change is made up of a few smaller ones.
