Online master degree programs are conducted using an online learning environment. It is important for a student to understand this learning environment, get to know how to work with it and access information which they require from the environment. Each university offering online study programs has its own way of doing carrying out the study program, but there are certain program features common to all universities. Let’s take a look at what your typical learning environment will look like. A typical online class room environment will have a log-on screen. In this screen you will see icons, folders or something similar which represents different areas of your online classroom. You may come across an “Ask Questions”, area where you can post any questions related to your study program during the timeframe of your course. You may find another folder, where you can drop your assignments for assessment, grading and feedback from instructor. In most online learning environments, students are allowed to post a summary about themselves so that their teacher and classmates can get to know them. You can also find professors putting forth information on themselves. In some online universities, students are allotted a specific area where their personal information is kept separately and remain there till completion of the course and others student information may be posted to a bio area or conference area specific for bios. You may find an area where the professor will post case studies and carry out discussions. In some universities, the online learning environment has an area set aside where for real-time chat sessions are conducted. This mat be specific to the class, or some groups or it may be a chat sessions between the class and instructor. Some of these areas are mandatory to visit. For example if a chat session is mandatory, it means that you must be online at a certain time and date and if you don’t attend, you could have an imposition on your hands. There is an area allotted for daily and weekly announcements. This area is used by the university or professor to put forth student or course related information. It is your responsibility to check out this section on a daily basis so as not miss critical data and deadlines.Some online universities will provide you with an email address in their learning management system. In some cases, this is not so. It is better to opt for a university that gives you such a provision because it will be easier for you to participate in online courses with your classmates or instructor. There may also be a section allotted in the learning management system where you can change your learning management system password.Toward the end of any course you will most probably receive an evaluation form. Some universities require you to complete the form; some are not particular on this issue. Universities who insist on submitting such a form take student suggestions seriously. This is the time you can speak out your views on how the course can be improved, or if you felt satisfied with the way the course was conducted, now is the time to put forth such thought. If you were unsatisfied with nay aspect of the course, look over the issue fairly before putting them into the form.
